Making the case for the polymers everyone else writes off

Most of the recycling conversation focuses on the easy wins — PET bottles, aluminium cans. We're here to build awareness around what's left over: the mixed, contaminated, degraded, or otherwise "too hard to recycle" polymers, and the case for upcycling them instead of burying or exporting them.

The problem with "too hard to recycle"

A large share of plastic waste isn't the clean, single-polymer stream that conventional recycling infrastructure is built for. It's mixed, filled, laminated, or degraded — and too often that means landfill, low-value downcycling, or export, none of which capture what the material is actually worth.

Why upcycling, and why locally

Upcycling these harder streams into higher-value materials does two things at once: it keeps material out of landfill at a use-level that actually makes sense, and it helps build the beginnings of a local supply chain for recycled-content material in Australia and the wider region — reducing reliance on virgin resin imports and waste exports.

This site exists mainly to share that thinking: the science, the trade-offs, and real examples of what's possible.
